Supernova does more. That is the point - and the tax
Supernova is a design system platform in the full sense: documentation, token management, code generation, automation pipelines, AI contexts. If your team will genuinely use that machinery, it is worth every dollar, and we are not the alternative. The tax is everything that comes with machinery: more to configure, more to learn, more that can silently break, and a per-seat price that counts everyone who touches it. Most teams we talk to use a fraction of what a platform offers and pay for all of it. If that sentence stings, you know which column you are in.
What we would defend
Three things. Flat pricing that does not punish involvement: €39 covers a team of three, and the gap widens with every seat. A cap that does not exist: when the fifteenth editor arrives, nothing happens. And the adoption gap, visible without an enterprise contract: how many components exist in Figma, how many are documented, and how many anybody actually reads - Supernova can tell you about code adoption, but only on Enterprise; here the equivalent sits on the €99 plan.
Where Supernova is genuinely ahead, and why we say so
The pipelines are real: tokens and design decisions delivered into your repository is a capability we do not attempt, and no amount of positioning changes that. Their free tier is more generous than ours - five seats against one. Their MCP server is on every plan including free, where ours starts at the first paid plan. And on Enterprise their page history has no end date, where ours stops at 180 days. If you recognise your needs in that list, buy Supernova and do not look back.
How to choose, in one question
Do you want your design system delivered into code, or documented for people? If the answer is code - pipelines, token sync, generated output - Supernova is built for you. If the answer is people - developers looking up a measurement, a new joiner reading the guidelines, a client checking the brand rules - that is the whole of what we do, and doing only that is why we are simpler and cheaper. Both answers are respectable. Paying platform prices for the people-problem is the only mistake on this page.
